The methods section of an APA style paper<\/a> is where you report in detail how you performed your study. Research papers in the social and natural sciences often follow APA style. This article focuses on reporting quantitative research methods<\/a>.<\/p>\n

In your APA methods section, you should report enough information to understand and replicate<\/a> your study, including detailed information on the sample<\/a>, measures, and procedures used.<\/p>\n

Structuring an APA methods section<\/h2>\n

The main heading of \u201cMethods\u201d should be centered, boldfaced, and capitalized. Subheadings within this section are left-aligned, boldfaced, and in title case. You can also add lower level headings within these subsections, as long as they follow APA heading styles<\/a>.<\/p>\n

To structure your methods section, you can use the subheadings of \u201cParticipants,\u201d \u201cMaterials,\u201d and \u201cProcedures.\u201d These headings are not mandatory\u2014aim to organize your methods section using subheadings that make sense for your specific study.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n
